FROST QUAKES. The name is pretty cool, though I had never heard of these before. They are a real thing (unlike Sharknado), also called cryoseisms, when water seeps into cracks in otherwise frozen ground, and then quickly freezes during a deep cold snap. Because water expands as it freezes into ice, it ends up cracking the frozen soil or bedrock around it and causes a quake, sometimes even shaking the ground above. Two weeks ago, citizens of a town in Vermont heard a very alarming noise and noticed their houses shaking. It was a frost quake.
I wonder if we will get more with the new polar vortex coming our way this week??
